Guadeloupe raccoon on map

[edit]

A very minor detail, but on the map Guadeloupe is marked red, meaning the racoon is native there. However on page for the Guadeloupe raccoon it says: " ... the Guadeloupe raccoon was introduced by humans just a few centuries ago. ". Shouldn't Guadeloupe then be blue on the map?

Raccoons are Nocturnal

[edit]

The photos are biased to day time. How about a few night time shots:

Raccoon Diet

[edit]

Raccoons eat vegetables and fruits and cherries!

Hello @Spinosaurus500: Although there is nothing wrong with your edits it would be better to reuse the same WP:NAMEDREFS. I did this for you in this edit. Invasive Spices (talk) 14 July 2022 (UTC)

"trash panda" is not a derisive nickname

[edit]

Any raccoon lover will tell you that it's an endearing nickname. It's used frequently by communities that love raccoons - the reddit community r/TrashPandas is 4 times as large as r/Raccoons. This article should be changed to reflect this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A01:4B00:D11F:900:DC84:B4A1:15D9:28C8 (talk) 00:54, 24 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Old FA issue

[edit]

This article is not in good shape. It has multiple unsourced statements, low-quality sources, ref bombs, lack of updates, multiple one sentence paragraph and no status information. not sure either if the local and indigenous names should have its own section at the end. I think this needs to be sent off at WP:FAR. 🍕BP!🍕 (🔔) 02:14, 29 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I found several errors in just the section about rabies, some of which were present at the time of promotion. This definitely needs an overhaul to stay at FA quality. I support sending it to FAR. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 22:49, 29 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! You can send it to FAR next week If no one is going to fix all if these (I doubt someone will until if it has been sent to FAR already.). 🍕BP!🍕 (🔔) 00:59, 30 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see many of the problems you cite. I see some tags for [better source needed] in etymology and the lack of conservation/status section. I suppose the use German language sources is strange when this is an English article about a mammal native to two English-speaking countries. LittleJerry (talk) 23:24, 30 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am mainly concerned about a large number of inaccuracies/errors in a few subsections I looked at where sources are available online, suggesting broader issues with verifiability that will take a long time to resolve. I've corrected some of these: [1], [2], [3]. Here's one error I haven't fixed: There is archeological evidence that in pre-Columbian times raccoons were numerous only along rivers and in the woodlands of the Southeastern United States is incorrect; the cited book is referring to the southeastern portion of the Prairie Pothole Region (as an extension of their range beyond the Eastern US), not the Southeastern US, and the book does not mention "archaeological evidence". Howdy LittleJerry, I am amazed of all the articles that you've improved, especially for the Red Panda. Anyway, at first glance, I just thought that this article is really not in good shape compare to other FA articles. 🍕BP!🍕 (🔔) 01:19, 31 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
