Reads like an advertisement
[edit]This article reads like an ad for TaxSlayer, and the only other Talk topic is basically a complaint. I'm not an expert at Wikipedia editing, but I'd want to know about the political dimensions of the company such that they were sent a letter by congress members to explain their lobbying efforts against free tax filing for Americans.
For instance, the page on TurboTax is almost entirely about controversies. This article on the other hand frames membership of the Free File Alliance as a service benefit without even passing mention that the Alliance has used deliberate efforts to hide Free File services. Infobox: Key People
[edit]Current: Key people = Brian Rhodes (President and CEO)
Proposed: Key people = Jamie Saxe (CEO)[1], Jeff Hodges (CFO)[2], Sean McGinty (CMO)[3], Eric Bradley (CIO)[4], Michael Blache (CISO)[5], Pete Mourfield (CTO)[6], Seth Babb (Head of Product for Consumer, Partnerships, and Enterprise Apps [7]
- Why it should be changed:
These updates reflect the company's current leadership team as verified by external sources. The existing information (Brian Rhodes as CEO) is outdated. Kthapvongsa (talk) 13:18, 20 August 2025 (UTC)

Update to company overview
[edit]![]() | This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. |
- What I think should be changed (include citations):
Current: The company offers online tax preparation technology for American consumers and tax professionals, allowing them to electronically file state and/or federal returns. TaxSlayer also offers business technology products and services for legal, bookkeeping and HR/payroll.
Proposed: The company offers online tax filing preparation technology for American consumers and tax professionals. Its consumer product allows individuals to electronically file state and/or federal income tax returns, with features such as a guided filing process and varying levels of support.[1]
- Why it should be changed:
This update improves the clarity and wording while continuing to cite the same reliable source already used elsewhere on the page.

Linking and minor copy edits
[edit]![]() | Part of an edit requested by an editor with a conflict of interest has been implemented. |
- What I think should be changed (include citations):
Current: According to the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP), TaxSlayer Pro is one of the top-rated software packages for tax professionals in the U.S.[1] In 2015, the IRS awarded TaxSlayer with the exclusive five-year contracts for the VITA and TCE programs, which provide electronic tax preparation assistance for taxpayers who are low-income, elderly, disabled or who have limited English language proficiency in over 9,500 locations worldwide.[2] Over 90,000 tax preparers use TaxSlayer as part of the program.[3]
Proposed: In 2015, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) awarded TaxSlayer with the exclusive five-year contracts for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs, which provide online tax filing and preparation assistance for taxpayers who are low-income, elderly, disabled, or who have limited English language proficiency in over 9,500 locations worldwide [1]. Over 90,000 tax preparers use TaxSlayer as part of these government tax preparation assistance programs [2].
- Why it should be changed:
This removes unnecessary text (the NATP ranking is already cited in a different context). It also expands abbreviations (IRS, VITA, TCE) on first mention for clarity and links to relevant Wikipedia articles for IRS and VITA. This updates phrasing from “electronic tax preparation assistance” to “online tax filing and preparation assistance” for clarity. Lastly, this adds “government tax preparation assistance programs” for better accuracy and context.

Update sports sponsorships
[edit]| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
- What I think should be changed (include citations):
Current: The company is also known for its sports sponsorships, such as the TaxSlayer Bowl, a major college football bowl game in Jacksonville, Florida previously known as the Gator Bowl. Other sports sponsorships have included: Dale Earnhardt Jr., NASCAR and the JR Motorsports team, as well as three PGA Tour golfers.
Proposed: The company is also known for its sports sponsorships, such as the Gator Bowl, a College football bowl game in Jacksonville, Florida, officially known as the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl Cite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page)., and Richard Childress Racing[1], as well as three PGA Tour golfers.
- Why it should be changed:
This updates the bowl game reference to link directly to the correctly named Wikipedia page Gator Bowl for consistency. It clarifies official naming (“officially known as the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl”). It adds notable sponsorships of Myatt Snider and Richard Childress Racing with reliable citations.

Updates to TaxSlayer history
[edit]| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
- What I think should be changed (include citations):
Current: In the early 1960s, Aubrey Rhodes, Sr. founded Rhodes-Murphy & Co., a full-service tax preparation company that remains in operation in Georgia and South Carolina. In 1989, the company formed a subsidiary, Rhodes Computer Services, to start developing tax preparation software for others to use.
Proposed: In the early 1960s, Aubrey Rhodes Sr. established Rhodes-Murphy & Co., a full-service tax preparation company headquartered in Georgia, and continues to serve clients today. The company established a subsidiary, Rhodes Computer Services, to develop tax preparation software intended for tax preparers in addition to DIY client base..
- Why it should be changed:
This updates outdated information (removes reference to South Carolina operations, which are no longer relevant). It clarifies phrasing (“founded” → “established”; “remains in operation” → “continues to serve clients today”). It also updates description of Rhodes Computer Services for accuracy. Additionally, this change aims to remove promotional language and is written from a neutral point of view.

Updates to consumer product
[edit]![]() | This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. |
- What I think should be changed (include citations):
Current: TaxSlayer’s consumer products allow taxpayers to electronically file their taxes online each year. The product provides several different packages to provide varying levels of assistance and support customers require when filling.
Proposed:
TaxSlayer’s consumer products allow taxpayers to electronically file their taxes online each year. The product provides several different packages to provide varying levels of assistance and support customers require when filing tax returns [1]. TaxSlayer offers four consumer pricing tiers: Free, Classic, Premium, and Self-Employed. The Classic package supports all standard IRS forms and schedules, including those for self-employment and rental income. Premium and Self-Employed plans include access to tax professionals and audit assistance [2].
- Why it should be changed:
The current version does not mention the different consumer packages that TaxSlayer offers. The updated version includes these package options, which are covered by third-party sources.

Updates to pro product
[edit]![]() | This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. |
- What I think should be changed (include citations):
Current: TaxSlayer Pro is designed to be licensed by members of tax preparation practices and small to mid-sized accounting firms.
Proposed: TaxSlayer Pro is designed to be licensed by members of tax preparation practices and small to mid-sized accounting firms [1]. It offers software for both desktop and cloud-based tax preparation. The software includes functionality for individual tax return filing (Form 1040), integration with financial products, document management, a client portal, and desktop or cloud based preparation. The National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP) has recognized, TaxSlayer Pro among the top-rated software packages for tax professionals in the U.S [2].
- Why it should be changed:
The proposed version adds information about TaxSlayer Pro which is distinct from the consumer offerings and represent the core of the professional product line.

Thanks, Encoded Talk 💬 21:52, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the context. My main intent was to clarify that TaxSlayer Pro is distinct from the consumer product line. Maybe a revised sentence could read: “TaxSlayer Pro is the professional software offering, licensed by members of tax preparation practices and small to mid-sized accounting firms. It is distinct from the consumer-focused TaxSlayer product, and has been recognized by the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP).” Would something along these lines be acceptable? It keeps the distinction clear, maintains the citation, and avoids listing product features. Kthapvongsa (talk) 17:20, 30 September 2025 (UTC)

Updates to TaxSlayer Center
[edit]| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
- What I think should be changed:

Proposed: TaxSlayer purchased the naming rights to the stadium for a contract of more than $3.3 million, as part of a sponsorship agreement with the city.

The TaxSlayer Center is a 12,000-seat arena located in Moline, Illinois, of the Quad Cities region. The stadium is home to the Quad City Storm, a minor league professional hockey team, and the Quad City Steamwheelers of the Champions Indoor Football League.
