Soprano saxophone
The soprano saxophone is a small, high-pitched member of the saxophone family, invented in the 1840s by the Belgian instrument maker Adolphe Sax. It is a transposing instrument tuned in B-flat, an octave above the tenor saxophone (or, rarely, slightly smaller in C). The soprano is the smallest of the four saxophones in common use (the others being the alto, the tenor and the baritone), although there are smaller rare instruments such as the soprillo and the sopranino. Richard Strauss's Symphonia Domestica includes a C soprano among four different saxophones, and Maurice Ravel's Boléro features a solo for the soprano saxophone immediately following the tenor saxophone's solo. The soprano saxophone also features in some jazz music, with players including the 1930s virtuoso Sidney Bechet, the 1950s innovator Steve Lacy, and John Coltrane. About me

[edit]

Not much to say about me really :) I am in the UK, which is going to naturally affect a few things. My politics are going to be somewhere to the left of the USA and somewhere to the right of Laos. I try not to let that influence anything I do here. I am subject to UK laws which does affect things; I don't really deal with fair use copyright claims, and I don't recognise first amendment claims. These are just examples. I am going to speak funny, spell some words strangely, use idioms you might have to look up, and employ British humour. At the same time, I am familiar with many international experiences and perspectives. I registered this account in 2005, and could write back then, so I am at least that old. I don't possess any pronouns, and yours are probably going to involve the singular they. I am not paid by anyone to edit or perform any other actions. If you receive any request for payment mentioning my username then it's a scam. I don't use this username on any other (non-wikimedia) website. Realistically, the only other account you'll see me operate here is User:💤. Anyone else claiming to be me is probably an impostor.

Notes for other admins

[edit]

I am currently an admin and checkuser (along with some other stuff). Other admins should feel free to adjust or reverse any admin actions I've made, as long as they understand the basis and consequences, with the following qualifications. First, any action I've marked as a checkuser action is based on non-public information and should not be adjusted without consultation with a checkuser. This is actual policy. Consultation with any checkuser will suffice, but you might want to start by consulting with me. I would also add with respect to checkuser blocks, revoking TPA (or maybe email) is usually fine but any other adjustments you really should at least let me know. I try to be very precise and deliberate in any action I take. I particularly advise caution when there is a partial block involved. Second, I frequently deal with other private or otherwise unstated information, involving institutional knowledge, LTA cases, private requests, BLP complaints, or some other subtlety. I'm working on improving my communication skills, but I don't always make clear what's going on for various reasons. If you don't fully understand what's going on then I'm usually happy to provide as much information as I can, and if required, to refer you in good faith to people you can check with or appeal to. If in doubt, just ask. And in any case, please just let me know. Other than that, if you just plain disagree, or I've made a clear mistake, and you know what you're doing then I warmly invite you to act. These principles, although directed to admins, also apply to regular editors.

Email

[edit]

I dislike email. If you can do it on-wiki, please do that. I will accept email through Special:EmailUser/Zzuuzz where the information is not suitable for public disclosure. This might include (but is not limited to) requests for revision deletion, requests for IPBE, tip-offs, other private notifications, and any instance where a reporting user feels they may see retribution or harassment. In most cases I may just take actions instead of replying by email. Please note that emailing is never a quicker route to my attention than my talk page. If you send email directly to my email address rather than through the wiki interface, then I will not receive notification and the email has a chance of remaining unread indefinitely. I strongly recommend you don't do that. If you do email through the wiki interface then I will receive notification. Please don't add an additional notification to tell me I've got a notification.
