Administrator Elections - Discussion Phase

[edit]

The discussion phase of the December 2025 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • Dec 4–8 - Discussion phase (we are here)
  • Dec 9–15 - SecurePoll voting phase
  • Scrutineering phase

We are currently in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages are open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship. You may discuss the candidates at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/December 2025/Discussion phase.

On December 9, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's totals during the election. You must be extended confirmed to vote.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which typically lasts between a couple days and a week. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (you may want to watchlist this page) and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate who has not been recalled must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and must also have received a minimum of 20 support votes. A candidate that has been recalled must have at least 55.0% support. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Unlinking

Let me know, would you, if Liz starts to unlink rather than delete? Logoshimpo (talk) 23:37, 5 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Liz's talk page is on my watchlist, but I don't go around monitoring what she's up to, so I'm not likely to notice. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 04:37, 6 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Technical news

  • Starting on November 4, the IP addresses of logged-out editors are no longer being publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account associated with their edits.
  • Administrators will now find that Special:MergeHistory is now significantly more flexible about what it can merge. It can now merge sections taken from the middle of the history of the source (rather than only the start) and insert revisions anywhere in the history of the destination page (rather than only the start). Administrator Elections - Voting Phase

[edit]

The voting phase of the December 2025 administrator elections has started and will continue until Dec 15 at 23:59 UTC. You can participate in the voting phase at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/December 2025/Voting phase.

As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • Dec 9–15 - SecurePoll voting phase
  • Scrutineering phase

In the voting phase, the candidate subpages close to public questions and discussion, and everyone who qualifies to vote has a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's vote total during the election. The suffrage requirements are similar to those at RFA.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for a few days, perhaps longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (this is a good page to watchlist), and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a non-recall candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and a minimum of 20 support votes. Recall candidates must achieve 55.0% support. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Question from Nkiru Odihekandu (11:59, 10 December 2025)

[edit]

Hello, how do create an oral tradition to article and how do I reference the oral tradition --Nkiru Odihekandu (talk) 11:59, 10 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Nkiru Odihekandu. There's some information about this topic at Wikipedia:Oral history. To ensure that other people can verify the claims, articles need to be based on published sources. If the oral tradition has been recorded in some way that others can access (like in a book, scholarly article, website, etc.), then there are some circumstances when you might be able to cite it: if you can give me more details, I'd be happy to provide further guidance.
If you want to write an article about an oral tradition, then it would need to satisfy our notability requirements, meaning you should look for reliable sources independent of the tradition that talk about it in detail. Again, I can provide more details if you tell me what specifically you're looking to write about. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 20:02, 10 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Extraordinary Writ,

I see that there are 43 broken redirects leftover from this AFD closure. I'm not sure if you can see them listed here but I found them at this Quarry query here. They are all Talk pages. In a few hours, you can find them listed at User:AnomieBOT III/Broken redirects and then you can do a batch delete which will take care of them much faster. Liz Read! Talk! 21:08, 10 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Liz, dealt with. Strangely the redirect talk pages were actually pointing to different articles than the redirects themselves, so they just needed to retargeted rather than deleted. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 21:30, 10 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree with your closure here of no consensus for Index of Singapore-related articles. Robertsky left a comment about his work on this page on November 25. Now, I commend Robert for his contributions and maintenance of this page, but after this there were thirteen further votes to either delete or redirect them all, with none saying this page should be exempted. I would be happy to see this page moved to project space for continued use by Robert and other Singapore editors, but your closure is not consistent with the AFD comments, and your comment that the articles can be REFUNDed would apply to this one as well without the need for a renomination. Robert, it seems from your comments that you would be okay with this page being moved to Wikipedia:Wikiproject Singapore/Index of Singapore-related articles? Reywas92Talk 21:35, 10 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The reason I did that was that even Fram thought it was a borderline case (making it difficult for the AfD to give it full consideration when 74 pages were nominated), but now that I think about it some more, you may well be right. I'll wait to hear Robert's thoughts on what I should have done, though. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 21:51, 10 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am an involved party yo. I defer to your judgement on this. :) – robertsky (talk) 03:18, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I think I got it wrong here, so I've revised the close and moved the page to Wikipedia:WikiProject Singapore/Index of Singapore-related articles. Thanks for the note, Reywas92. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 22:47, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! — Reywas92Talk 02:11, 12 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I didn't want to argue about it, as your close wasn't unreasonable (and we should be glad that there are people willing to tackle such sprawling AfDs), but I do think the current close better reflects consensus. Fram (talk) 09:08, 12 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

New pages patrol January–February 2026 Backlog drive

[edit]
January–February 2026 Backlog Drive | New pages patrol

New Pages Patrol is hosting a one-time, two-month experimental backlog drive aimed at reducing the backlog. This will be a combo drive: both articles and redirects will earn points.

  • The drive will run from 1 January to 28 February 2026.
  • The drive is divided into two phases. Participants may take part in either phase or across both phases, depending on availability.
  • Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled during the drive.
  • Two-month drive-exclusive barnstars will be awarded to eligible participants.
  • Each article review earns 1 point, while each redirect review earns 0.2 points.
  • Streak awards will be granted based on consistently meeting weekly point thresholds.
  • Barnstars will also be awarded for re-reviewing articles previously reviewed by other patrollers during the drive.
  • Interested in participating? Sign up here.

Question from Razligcruse (09:51, 4 January 2026)

[edit]
Note: Razligcruse's mentor Bsoyka is away.

as lame as it sounds. how do i add a reference to an article or something with the small numbers --Razligcruse (talk) 09:51, 4 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Razligcruse. When you're editing, look for the button that says "Cite" (and/or has a large quotation mark)—it should be at the top of the page. This will give you several different options: you can try the "automatic" feature (which sometimes works well and sometimes doesn't), or you can use "website"/"book"/"news"/"journal" (where you just have to fill in the blanks), or you can click "basic" and just type in what you want the citation to say. Feel free to experiment with the different options and see which one you like the most. Let me know if you get stuck or have any other questions!
