west indies

[edit]

@Hermes Express Isn't the point of the list of people that it has to be notable for the area. There's arabic and jewish people in lots of the world but if it's just a few people is it notable? Otherwise you might as well include danish and polish too since there's no doubt some danish and polish people living in the west indies. Nukleon (talk) 12:50, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The Jews in the West Indies and the Caribbean are mainly Sephardic and Ashkenazi , thus considered as White Caribbeans, A lot of Mixed Afro-Caribbeans also have some Jewish ancestry. As for the Javanese they form the third largest ethnic group in Suriname. I wouldn't consider any of these groups as notable as the ones you gave as a example. It also has to do with historical influence, even though jews may be a small ethnic group in the West Indies now. Hermes Express (talk) 13:57, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hindi vs Fiji Hindi

[edit]

@Hermes Express The constitution refers to standard hindi. The president of fiji himself clarified in the 12th world hindi conference, HINDI NOT FIJI HINDI, is the official language, so stop vandalising edits because it doesnt suit your narrative. Legally, HINDI is the official language and if you attempt to vandalise, it will be reverted — Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.88.42.123 (talk) 10:53, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Based on the reverts I assume this is Theoneandonlylinguist09, I'd suggest checking your own talkpage since you have been warned before for making these dubious edits, therefore they will again be reverted Hermes Express (talk) 17:59, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

dubious? your the one making the dubious edits. go ahead and make your edits, you will be warned and they will be reverted. Theoneandonlylinguist09 (talk) 13:10, 27 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You have been warned. Multiple sources have backed up my claim even in languages of Fiji where schools use the standard version. again, your free to vandalise, but we will simply revert what you do Theoneandonlylinguist09 (talk) 01:07, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

adding hindi vs fiji hindi

[edit]

Stop putting fiji hindi, its standard hindi 1. Constitutional Recognition Fiji’s supreme law explicitly names Hindustani—understood as standard Hindi—alongside English and Fijian as the country’s three official languages. Translations of the Constitution are made available in iTaukei and Hindi (Devanagari script), and citizens may conduct legal and parliamentary business in any of these three languages, with the English text prevailing only where there is doubt. There is no mention of the colloquial Fiji Hindi dialect in the constitutional text.

2. Government Publication & Usage The Fijian Government routinely publishes core documents (including the Constitution itself) and public health updates in standard Hindi (Devanagari). The official government portal provides the Constitution in a Hindi translation for legal reference—demonstrating that the state engages with the formal register of Hindi in all its institutions.

3. Education & Curriculum Policy Formal education in Fiji treats standard Hindi as the formal medium for teacher training and secondary instruction. Fiji National University’s Bachelor of Education (Secondary) program, for example, requires entrants to demonstrate proficiency in English and Hindi (Devanagari)—underscoring that the “Hindi” of instruction is the standardized form taught internationally, not the localized dialect.

4. Linguistic Scholarship & Distinction Academic research makes clear that the Constitution’s term “Hindustani” refers to the formal Hindi-Urdu register originating from the Indian subcontinent. Fiji Hindi is a distinct koiné dialect that developed locally among indentured labourers; it enjoys widespread everyday use but lacks any constitutional or legal standing.

5. Equal Citizen Rights Under Chapter 1, Section 3(3–4) of the Constitution, citizens have the right to use iTaukei, English, or Hindi (Hindustani) in all government and judicial proceedings. This provision places standard Hindi on an equal footing with Fiji’s other official languages—affirming its formal status in the state apparatus.

Also ths proves that standard hindi is used in education - https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/EJ1328357.pdf ". Fiji Hindi is most often the first language of the Indo-Fijians. AGAIN HERE - https://eric.ed.gov/?id=EJ1328357 Results showed that Fiji Hindi is preferred in social settings … and Standard Hindi is preferred in formal settings

[edit]

Information icon Hi Hermes Express! I noticed that you have reverted to restore your preferred version of Awadhi language several times. The impulse to undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that the edit warring policy disallows repeated reversions even if they are justifiable.

All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages to try to reach consensus. If you are unable to agree at Talk:Awadhi language, please use one of the dispute resolution options to seek input from others or you can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.

Eucalyptusmint (talk) 15:38, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon Your recent editing history at Awadhi language shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. An edit war occurs when two or more users begin repeatedly reverting content on a page in a back-and-forth fashion to restore it back to how they think it should be, despite knowing that other editors disagree with their changes. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or undo the edits made by other editors when your changes are reverted. Instead, please use the talk page to work toward creating a version of the page that represents consensus among the editors involved. The best practice at this time is to stop editing the page and to discuss the disagreements, issues, and concerns at-hand with the other editors involved in the dispute. Wikipedia provides a page that helps to detail how this is accomplished. If discussions reach an impasse, you can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard, or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection while a discussion to resolve the dispute is ongoing.

Continuing to engage in further edit warring behavior can result in being blocked from editing Wikipedia—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, or whether it involves the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also, please keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your demeanor, behavior, or conduct indicate that you intend to continue repeatedly making reverts to the page. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:36, 14 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Please discuss redirects after being reverted

[edit]

I see that you have redirected Indians in the Netherlands to South Asians in the Netherlands several times without discussing the redirect on either relevant article's talk page or on Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion. When your redirects are reverted, you should provide a rationale before restoring the redirect.Dialectric (talk) 14:05, 21 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

rationale was provide way before that and turned into a redirect before me, the restored page is to similar to how it is described in South Asians in the Netherlands, from the sources to the text. Other pages where turned into redirects as well. Hermes Express (talk) 21:58, 21 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
An edit summary is not a discussion. Even if you didn't do the initial merge, the repeated reverts show this merge/redirect may be controversial and should be discussed on an article talk page or discussion board.Dialectric (talk) 01:44, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with @Dialectric. @Hermes Express read WP:Brd. It's a helpful approach for working through disagreements: make a bold edit, if it's reverted then discuss, and only after that seek consensus before restoring. In this case, after @Primohare's revert, the next step should have been to start a talk page discussion rather than reverting a second time. LeónGonsalvesofGoa (talk) 05:14, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The merge was already done the one undoing it is doing a bold revert and should start the discusion. Hermes Express (talk) 09:24, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That's not how WP:Brd works.
  1. Bold edit was when you merged the page (a)
  2. Revert (b)
  3. Next step should have been discussion but you re-reverted (c) instead of discussing on talk page.
Once your bold edit was reverted, it was your responsibility to begin a discussion here to build consensus, not the responsibility of the editor who reverted. Hope that makes sense. LeónGonsalvesofGoa (talk) 01:43, 2 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
