WikiCup 2025 September newsletter
[edit]The fourth round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 29 August. The penultimate round saw three contestants score more than 800 points:
BeanieFan11 (submissions) with 1,175 round points, mainly from sports-related articles, including 17 good articles, 27 did you know articles, and 9 in the news articles
Arconning (submissions) with 1,090 round points, mainly from articles about athletes and politicians, including a featured article on Philippines at the 1924 Summer Olympics, 9 good articles, 28 did you know articles, and a wide assortment of featured and good article reviews
AirshipJungleman29 (submissions) with 854 round points, mostly from a high-scoring featured article on the Indian leader Rani of Jhansi and two good articles, in addition to 13 featured and good article reviews
Everyone who competed in Round 4 will advance to Round 5 unless they have withdrawn. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far, while the full scores for Round 4 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 9 featured articles, 12 featured lists, 98 good articles, 9 good topic articles, more than 150 reviews, nearly 100 did you know articles, and 18 in the news articles.
In advance of the fifth and final round, the judges would like to thank every contestant for their hard work. As a reminder, any content promoted after 29 August but before the start of Round 5 can be claimed in Round 5. In addition, note that Round 5 will end on 31 October at 23:59 UTC. Awards at the end of Round 5 will be distributed based on who has the most tournament points over all five rounds, and special awards will be distributed based on high performance in particular areas of content creation (e.g., most featured articles in a single round).
Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges – Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), Frostly (talk · contribs), Guerillero (talk · contribs) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs) – are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck!

Bejeweled (video game) scheduled for TFA
[edit]This is to let you know that the above article has been scheduled as today's featured article for 12 November 2025. Please check that the article needs no amendments. Feel free to amend the draft blurb, which can be found at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/November 2025, or to make comments on other matters concerning the scheduling of this article at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/November 2025. Please keep an eye on that page, as notifications of copy edits to or queries about the draft blurb may be left there by those who assist the coordinators by reviewing the blurbs. I also suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from two days before it appears on the Main Page. Thanks, and congratulations on your work! Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 14:26, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
Thank you today for the article, about "a 2000 match-three video game developed and published by PopCap Games. If you're even slightly interested in casual gaming, then even if you haven't heard of this game, you will most certainly recognize the ubiquitous match-three mechanic, which Bejeweled popularized."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:03, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
A barnstar for you

| Well done for doing such extensive spot checks on Swaay/GA1. It's often thankless work. Consider adding cleanup tags to the article where your spot checks failed so your work counts for something outside the GA review. IAWW (talk) 11:09, 7 October 2025 (UTC) |

Tetris
[edit]Lazman, I was very happy to see that you brought Tetris to FAC. I wanted to let you know that you are appreciated and that I enjoy reading your articles. I didn't realize that Bejeweled (video game) was also your nomination. See you around! 3df (talk) 06:25, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
A fox for you!

Even though it didn't pass, thank you for dedicating so much of your time over the past couple of weeks to helping improve the article for The Click (album) and providing the notes for me to be a better editor in the future.

| This award is given to Lazman321 for accumulating at least 7 points in the October 2025 GAN Backlog Drive. Your dedicated reviews contributed to the successful reduction of the backlog and helped improve the quality of articles. Here's our token of appreciation. Thank you for your time and efforts, and hopefully we'll see you soon again! Bgsu98 (Talk) 23:07, 1 November 2025 (UTC) |
- I liked how your reviews systematically checked every criteria and uncovered issues that often wouldn't be caught in a GA review. Just a little feedback: I think on Talk:Swaay/GA1, some specific actionable examples would have been very helpful to the nominator, especially considering how long the article was in the queue. Hi Lazman321. You tagged this article with {{Close paraphrasing}} but didn't provide an URL. Do you happen to remember what this article is paraphrasing from? — Tenshi! (Talk page) 00:21, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Tenshi Hinanawi: It's not just one source; it's multiple. Much of the article is paraphrased from the sources already cited, which was why I failed its GAN nomination. Lazman321 (talk) 02:50, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hmm, it might be possible to add support for multiple sources in the template, though that's probably an in the future thing. Thanks anyway. Tenshi! (Talk page) 14:13, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
Dexerto is not reliable on WP:RS/PS and Parade's reliability has not been established yet. I think these two are compromising the list that is populated with only reliable sources. MSAOM (talk) 05:32, 19 December 2025 (UTC)
- WP:RSP says that Dexerto can be used on a case-by-case basis, and since editorial opinions on entertainment are rarely controversial, I think they can be used for this list, similar to how it's already used on List of video games considered the best.
- As for Parade, just because a particular source has not been litigated by the community does not mean it shouldn't be used. As far as I can tell, it is an established magazine, one that used to be in print, that has editorial policies. Not to mention, List of video games considered the best also used Parade. Unless, there's reason to assume otherwise, I believe that Parade is usable. Lazman321 (talk) 05:52, 19 December 2025 (UTC)
- If there's case to case basis on Dexerto, I would propose to not give it benefit of the doubt. And as for Parade, the magazine's reliability has nothing to do with the web one unless it specifies that the list is directly lifted from the magazine. Besides, the 2019 Parade already fails because it explicitly mentions 20 best Emmy-winning shows, not best ever. MSAOM (talk) 06:06, 19 December 2025 (UTC)
- Ok, you have a point on a Parade list. Can't include a list that limits itself to Emmy-winning shows. As for the Dexerto list, I recommend posting about it on the talk page to see if there is consensus for your side. Lazman321 (talk) 06:14, 19 December 2025 (UTC)

Welcome to the 2026 WikiCup!
[edit]Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2026 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here, and a bot will set up your submissions page within one day, ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.
For the 2026 WikiCup, the highest-ranking contestants will receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. This is the same scoring system that we had last year. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants are no longer eliminated at the end of each round.
The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email).
