AWBSchools

[edit]

I don't know if its an inherent problem with AWBSchools, but at Downham Market Academy when correctly removing "Dr" as the principals title, you also removed the Dr from Drama leaving "ama and music" - best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 10:53, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up. Sometimes it does come up with false positives... Leaving the regex to include these is partly deliberate, however, as it forces me to be more diligent with reviewing the edits. Evidently this one snuck through. Thanks for your diligence and WP:AGF! Notice

The article Ngombeni has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No significant coverage in independent reliable sources to establish notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi @Peaceray:. Could you please explain what flagged this to you as an editing test? My edit was removing the bolded quote marks per MOS:NICK – admittedly my edit summary quoted MOS:BOLD, but either way I don't see why this appeared to be a test or should've been reverted. Circa

[edit]

I don't mind your change from "on or before" to "c.", but Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Biography/2025 archive § Death announcements with no exact death date thought differently. Best. —Bagumba (talk) 10:17, 22 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough – thanks for alerting me to that discussion. May weigh in there, and User:MIDI/Auntie_Mabel can be expanded with some of the views given there too. MIDI (talk) 10:36, 22 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nice. I might be over-compensating for an extreme case like Fritz Peterson, whose actual death ended up being months before the announcement. No family is under obligation to make things public ASAP. I'm looser with using circa maybe than others, but have a peeve (from Peterson) with assuming the death date is the same month with no "c." or equivalent. Any thoughts to move the essay to WP namespace? Editors referencing shortcuts might be better to form consensus than discussions (that get minimal input). —Bagumba (talk) 10:48, 22 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Alleged assasin of Conservative Speaker Charlie Kirk Confirmed 207.144.166.76 (talk) 13:33, 12 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see any confirmation – but even so, the suspect is not independently notable so they don't warrant a standalone article. See WP:BLP1E – it should redirect. MIDI (talk) 13:35, 12 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

it should still be up, I'm unsure what you mean exactly by independently notable, I suspect that's your interpration not others given it is notable to warrant a standalone article — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2407:7000:B14F:DA00:0:0:0:1004 (talk) 12:25, 13 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, WP:BLP1E is not my opinion but part of policy. In my edits – and deletions – I have maintained that when appropriate we can revert them. But at the time I made them, they were appropriate and concordant with our policies and guidelines. MIDI (talk) 15:30, 13 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I'm Ed, a longtime contributor (since 2001). I changed the #suspect heading to Killing_of_Charlie_Kirk#Arrest_of_primary_suspect. I hope this didn't cause you any inconvenience. --Uncle Ed (talk) 21:37, 14 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Ed. Just to clarify my two edits:
  1. Diff – changing link text from "suspect" to "a suspect" per MOS:EGG; blue text of "suspect" implies a link to suspect which is not what was happening.
  2. Diff – having changed the link text, I realised that an anchor didn't exist for "suspect". Rather than changing the link destination to the appropriate section name (now removed, I see), it felt unnecessary to have a link at all so I removed it.
I hope this makes sense – I have no objection to your change(s) (but note that it has since been reworded again!). Thanks, MIDI (talk) 07:24, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Burnham Copse Infant School

[edit]

On 21 October 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Burnham Copse Infant School, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that while a British school inspired by a circus tent was described as "eclectic and witty", its "plain functional" replacement won an RIBA Award? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Burnham Copse Infant School. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Burnham Copse Infant School), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to nominate it.

The Recent Death template

[edit]

With well over a hundred edits in a single day, I assume you agree your removal of {{Recent death}} over at Prunella Scales was overly aggressive?

Now it's been a day and so things are going to settle down, I assume, but if that template has a use, I would say using it yesterday on this article is prime example of using it as intended.

I can therefore only hope you will cease to remove such templates so quickly merely because you act so fast more edits don't have time to prove your assertion "This article is currently being heavily edited"... no it's not - we don't add this sort of thing preemptively wrong.

CapnZapp (talk) 14:43, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You assume wrong, CapnZapp, and it's disingenuous to apply the subsequent number of edits to the rationale I applied at the time of mine. I removed the template when barely a dozen edits had been made to the page, with very little change to the content. The template has a very specific use; it's a warning to readers that the article may be unstable because of the volume of editing – the text of the template literally says "This article is currently being heavily edited", which was not true at the time I removed it. The template documentation says, in bold with warning triangles and some red type, "Do not use it merely to tag the article of a recently deceased person". Can it be argued that the use was anything BUT that, at the time? We do not need to pre-emptively add templates like this, it's not helpful to editors or readers. My assertion was correct, and there's no reason for me to not do the same thing again in similar circumstances. Whether the template is warranted now is a different matter altogether, and you're welcome to re-add it if you feel it's useful – I shall not remove it. MIDI (talk) 14:58, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
What's more, the template was added as the second edit after the article was updated with her death. This diff shows the comparison between the article before it was updated with her death and then with the template added. No-one can argue it was an appropriate addition at the time (was "this article [..] currently being heavily edited"?) and the edits between that and my removal show that it needn't have been added then, either. Guide to temporary accounts

[edit]

Hello, MIDI. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.

Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.

How do temporary accounts work?

Editing from a temporary account
  • When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern: ~2025-12345-67 (a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5).
  • All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
  • A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
  • As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
    • There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
    • There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.

Temporary account IP viewer user right

How to enable IP Reveal

Impact for administrators

  • It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
  • It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
  • Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).

Rules about IP information disclosure

  • Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
  • Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67)
  • See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.

Useful tools for patrollers

  • It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences → Appearance → Advanced options → Tick Enable the user info card
    • This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
  • Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
  • Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
  • The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.
