Infobox UK Place

[edit]

Hi Zackmann08, progress on the conversion of Infobox UK Place to use Infobox Settlement as a wrapper has stalled completely, and I'm not sure it will be possible to achieve a unanimous local consensus as some users prefer the status quo. Would it be possible to put the changes to a wider audience at TfD? Otherwise, it may never happen. Dgp4004 (talk) 06:31, 15 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

You are absolutely welcome to open a TFD! Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 13:42, 15 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
The reason I ask is because I am not able to do the conversion work myself for anything that is agreed there, so I would be proposing something that I cannot do. So long as you are happy for me to volunteer your technical work at TfD please, I'm happy to create it. Dgp4004 (talk) 13:49, 15 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
You do not need to be able to implement the merge to bring something to TFD. That is for others to resolve. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 13:51, 15 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, but it's your sandbox version that I'd be putting forward. Nevermind, I'll crack on regardless then! Dgp4004 (talk) 13:56, 15 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I have no problem with you using my ideas! I don't have a functioning sandbox version at the moment, but fully support this idea. Make sure that you carefully word you TFD nomination. If it fails, it will be a while before we can renominate it. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 13:57, 15 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Dgp4004: I have made the nomination but do not have the energy to fight for it, so to speak. I took care of the procedural part and will gladly handle the merge if that is what WP:CONSENSUS decides, but I am going to leave it to you and others to address some of the concerns raised in the TFD. Unless someone pings me directly, I don't feel the need or desire to respond to individual comments in the TFD, but would rather just let the nomination run its course and speak for itself. If you want to lobby for it at the TFD, you are welcome to do so. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 19:01, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I am very happy to respond to some concerns raised, but some editors use an endless to and fro to dominate a discussion and lead it into the long grass with no obvious conclusion. Sometimes it's better to give them the last word once the concerns have been addressed once, especially if the objection holds little weight. I will monitor the discussion and address any new points that have not already been addressed. Dgp4004 (talk) 19:14, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I 100% agree! Definitely not suggesting you berate or WP:BLUDGEON. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 19:19, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Also, you may wish to edit the nomination wording slightly, unless I am misreading it. Surely we want Settlement to be a wrapper for UK place, not the other way around. Dgp4004 (talk) 19:22, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I think that is the proper way of saying it no? See Template:Uses Infobox settlement... Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 19:25, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Must just be me then! :) Dgp4004 (talk) 20:30, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Dilhan Eryurt Page

[edit]

"Hi Zackmann, I am a new editor and I apologize for the technical errors in my previous edits on the Dilhan Eryurt page. I was trying to contribute to the 'Women in Red' project but I accidentally broke the infobox formatting. I also didn't realize that reverting your edit was against the rules (edit warring). I am currently learning the policies and I will post my proposed changes to the talk page for consensus before editing again. Thank you for your patience." Keremtncll (talk) 15:38, 19 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Keremtncll: This is how we learn. Keep trying, keep making mistakes and learning from them! Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:46, 19 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Was just wondering why you reverted my recent edit. In the history you give the reason as "Broke Template", but I don't see how. Edwin of Northumbria (talk) 09:51, 21 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

You removed half of a reference tag and half of a template... Please consult the diff and see what code you actually removed. Not sure what your goal was... Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 14:04, 21 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Ah right, I see, thanks. I thought I'd deleted the entire reference. The problem is that in reverting the edit, you reinstated incorrect information (as I noted in the edit history, if you'd checked). It would have been better if you'd simply deleted what remained of the reference. I've now corrected the error. (Edwin of Northumbria (talk) 15:34, 22 April 2026 (UTC))[reply]

When you make that egregious of an edit error, I genuinely did not know what you were trying to do. The safest thing was the revert to the last stable version of the page. In the future, please WP:PREVIEW your edits. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 02:19, 23 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I always do, and did on this occasion. What's odd is that (presumably due to the way the template is implemented) the undeleted part of the reference didn't show up as text, which would normally be the case if one made the same error. My explanation for making the edit was clear enough so I'm not sure what you didn't understand about it. For future reference "that egregious of an edit error" is not terribly correct English. What you should really have said is "such an egregious edit error". (Edwin of Northumbria (talk) 00:20, 24 April 2026 (UTC))[reply]
Facepalm Facepalm says so much about you that you decided to go grammar nazi on my response rather than acknowledging your own errors. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 05:13, 24 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
"I have now corrected the error". How is this not acknowledging my mistake exactly? When I said that there was nothing obviously wrong when I previewed the page, it was merely a statement of fact. I corrected your English because it wouldn't have been good if you'd used such colloquial grammar in a Wikipedia article (I can see from your previous reply that you're fond of using colloquialisms).

I took issue with your revision because it's not what I would have done faced with the same situation, and most importantly, you reinstated information that was demonstrably incorrect (of which there is far too much on Wikipedia). My approach would have been to attempt to fix the problem first and then leave a note on the editor's Talk page. You could see from the diff that I'd changed the sales figure from three to one million and removed half a reference, and in the edit history I said "Ref cited said album sold 2m WORLDWIDE. RIAA certified sales 1m." Taken in the context of the article, I believe it was fairly clear what my intention was. If the reference stated that worldwide sales were only two million, then the U.S. sales alone cannot possibly have been three million. This also implies that the ref. was unreliable, hence the need to remove it. (Edwin of Northumbria (talk) 11:35, 24 April 2026 (UTC))[reply]
@Edwin of Northumbria: For future reference when responding on a talk page thread, please be sure to properly indent your response. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 13:56, 24 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
There's a very good reason why I didn't, which is that if there are a whole series of replies, one ends up with lines that are ridiculously short if you're trying to view the conversation on a mobile phone (which I am, and don't want to have to keep turning the auto-rotate on and off). My experience of viewing long talk threads is that it's common for people to reset the left margin every now and again – presumably with this in mind. (Edwin of Northumbria (talk) 15:05, 24 April 2026 (UTC))[reply]

Rubi Rose Page

[edit]

Hello, I have gone through the policies and information regarding constructive editing on wiki but I’m not understanding how updating Rubi Rose’s photo is not considered constructive. I initially uploaded an updated photo of Rubi Rose and added it to her wiki page. I understand there was a perceived copyright issue at first, but it was sorted and a wiki rep determined there was no copyright issue. Can you please review and allow my edit if there are no further issues. Thank you. Venusnoir (talk) 13:10, 22 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Please review the very clear notices that were left on your talk kate about how to properly add an image to an infobox. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 14:17, 22 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Another infobox that needs mapframe: Infobox SSSI

[edit]

If you have time, could you wave your magic wand over {{Infobox SSSI}}, please? 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 08:46, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Done Let me know if you find any issues. Also, let me know if there is an icon you'd like to use? You can find the list at mw:Help:Extension:Kartographer/Icons. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:06, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much. And the lack of a facility to add new icons strikes again . So the only neutral option is marker plain and simple.
In a few cases, 'wetland' would be appropriate so is there such a beast as a mapframe-icon=wetland? If so. I could add it to the doc? 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 18:47, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
You can use |mapframe-icon=wetland on a specific page to make that work. Can you link me to a page you n ed it on and I can show you? Also, can you please fill in Template:Infobox Site of Special Scientific Interest/doc#Usage with the sample code? Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 18:56, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
No need, I've been using mapframe-caption quite a bit so I'm familiar with the technique. Yes, I will do that update.
I was about to suggest WWT Slimbridge as a wetland but I see that it uses {{infobox park}}. (IMO, it would because good idea to add mapframe to that infobox too. But this is almost certainly a case of discretion being the better part of valour so best to signal the idea at the temple talk page first? Do you want to do it or shall I be the fall guy?) 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 19:17, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Do I have good news for you... {{Infobox park}} already has mapframe! The thing to keep in mind is that most of the time when Module:Infobox mapframe is used, it is set to not automatically turn on if a pushpin map is used. Look at line 45 of Template:Infobox park and you will see what I'm talking about. However, you can easily override it on the article as shown here. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 19:23, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
As you are no doubt aware, some editors are very opposed to any changes, no matter how obviously an improvement it is. So turning it on unilaterally as the default is probably an invitation to yet another flame war. But you are used to those backdrafts by now . 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 19:39, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Been there, done that, have the t-shirt! Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 19:41, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Blood-stained t-shirt, to be more precise!
Anyway, if you look at the history of WWT Slimbridge, you will see that I tried mapframe-icon=wetland and got a tree! How did that happen? 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 19:47, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I led you astray... It is |mapframe-marker=wetland that you need, not icon. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 19:50, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
If mobile web access would ever preview the map, I wouldn't look so incompetent
Every cloud etc as the tree icon is also useful. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 19:53, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Right??? This is why I also use desktop view on mobile... Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 19:57, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
as do I, but there is something specific to mapframe. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 20:01, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Breaking cite journal template

[edit]

Hi Zackmann08, Hope you're doing well. Some of your automated edits have been breaking the cite journal template like in the Argentine Regional Workers' Federation article, for example. I thought you might want to know. Carabinieri (talk) 03:20, 27 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Facepalm Facepalm @Carabinieri: F&$K!!! Thank you for calling this out and bringing it to my attention. Bizarre edge case that I just didn't account for or spot as I was editing. Thank you again for taking the time to let me know! Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 03:25, 27 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
No problem.Carabinieri (talk) 03:28, 27 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

NRF request

[edit]

Hi Zackmann, I saw you recently updated the infobox on the National Retail Federation article. Thanks! I had a COI edit request that may also be of interest if you were still looking at the article. No worries if not! Cheers ~~~~ NRFrepBeteck (talk) 17:03, 28 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

edit damage by indent.js

[edit]

Changing "|width=40%" to "|image_size=40%" inside {Quote box} made two quote boxes display incorrectly. That made them full-width (minor change), AND one of them scrunched the following section title. During edit preview, it displays a message saying "image_size" is an unknown parameter.

This edit made the change: Jozef Tiso 2026-03-31T23:34:03. (And no one corrected the error for 30 days.)

Assuming your indent.js did this*, it could have done it before, and it could do it again. Since yours is a fork, if you find the problem, you have to tell the maintainer of the parent indent.js. Fortunately, {Quote box} is not common, or there would be many mistakes.

I haven't hunted down any additional damaged page(s).
Anyone could find them (if any more exist) in your edit history, but they are a small fraction of the entries.
You could find them by searching the script's logfile (if any), but they are a small fraction of the entries.
Damaged pages that have not yet been repaired should appear in the hidden category Category:Pages using quote box with unknown parameters. (My initial search attempt, using Wikipedia Search for ≪insource:"Quote box" insource:"image_size"≫ didn't work, because that Search only applies the first "insource:".)

(* I don't see where your indent.js checks template parameters/arguments, where it looks up the correct parameters, or how it knows what replacements to make. The error could be code or in the database that it uses.) -A876 (talk) 14:18, 30 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. This was 100% my bad and I should have caught it when I previewed the page. Appreciate you taking the time to fix it as well as the time to notify me of the issue. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 14:21, 30 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
