Question from Sr1273 (01:11, 14 July 2024)

[edit]

Hi,

I am trying to edit and then submit an article about a living person Sammi Cannold. Would you please suggest what else I need to input in the article in order to make it noteworthy.

Thank you! --Sr1273 (talk) 01:11, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, a person isn't noteworthy because the article makes them noteworthy, but only if they pass WP:N. --SHB2000 (talk) 04:27, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

my edit seems to have been reverted on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikola_Ivanov concerning his name. i checked the bulgarian wikipedia and it said his name was Nikola Ivanov Ivanov (bulgarian names have a patronymic)

Hi, Cheesypenguigi, in that case, feel free to revert my edit – however, in the case of a WP:BLP, please provide a reliable source (cannot be bgwiki). --SHB2000 (talk) 01:35, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
i found a good source (http://1333.bg/persons/bg/image/437/) and have edited the article. thanks Cheesypenguigi (talk) 13:25, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @SHB2000. I just need to ask you a quick question about editing. I have added a template called Too Many Photos to the article cat. I have a feeling I haven't done it right. Have I done it correctly? Here`s the link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat#cite_note-1 --Coiman (talk) 00:39, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've been working on a draft, and frequently "Publishing it".

(talk page stalker) @Prophecy Guy: I believe you are referring to Draft:David Wilkerson Prophecies. However, I would like to point out that this draft as it stands is unlikely to be accepted for inclusion into the encyclopedia, since it appears to have problems relating to our neutral point of view policy. Question from Wikibiryalanmakinesi (21:35, 27 September 2025)

[edit]

Hi, there is an article about Khankandi in Azerbaijan The city was called Stepankert during Armenian invasion of Karabagh region of Azerbaijan. Now Armenia has recognised the region as part of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan officially calls the city Khankandi. But a few editors don't let to change the page title of city. There is also another article called "Stepankert during Artsakh time". But still this doesn't stop these editors resisting against changing the article. Google map has changed the name for 2 years already. What I can do?! --Wikibiryalanmakinesi (talk) 21:35, 27 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Wikibiryalanmakinesi: Hi, I'm not entirely familiar with the situation in regards to this city specifically, but the general rule of thumb is to always use the most common name in English per WP:COMMONNAME. That, of course, is very subjective, but the best way to raise any concerns about the name if you think that is not the most common name, is to raise it on the article's talk page. What you shouldn't do, however, is make threats of reporting people and such like you did here because that is more disruptive. --SHB2000 (talk) 23:50, 27 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I don't understand how a few people with political motivation can stop renaming a city to its legally and internationally known name. Plus the guy is using Wikipedia templates to bully other editors. I don't think that Wikipedia has a future in the information industry considering how biased and against common sense is behaving. Thanks for your response though Wikibiryalanmakinesi (talk) 11:27, 28 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question for mentor: odd user talk page behavior

[edit]

Hello SHB2000, I'm MossOnALog and you were assigned to me as a mentor—I was hoping you could provide advice or intervention on an odd scenario that I'm unfamiliar with. I had reverted some odd text at the top of an article [1], then left a notice on the user's talk page: User talk:Esserrzanatkarergun; the user responded with more unintelligible text then what seems like a draft article or something similar. Not the most disruptive behavior but also not appropriate content for a talk page if I understand correctly. Is the kind of thing I should just ignore? Or is is best to leave another notice or alert an admin? Thanks in advance for your time and help. MossOnALogTalk 14:08, 10 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It wasn't baseless – you need a reliable source to back your edits. --SHB2000 (talk) 03:17, 5 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have given 3 sources. Look at other sources in the page. Which one of them is more reliable than mine? And what you mean by not reliable? Which metrics do you have for reliability. Question from Junereads (15:17, 16 November 2025)

[edit]
Note: Junereads's mentor Zippybonzo is away.

Hello, I hope this message finds you well. I'm writing to you today because I'm a little frustrated and confused about a recent editing experience I had on Wikipedia. Specifically, I was working on the page for Vaishno Devi, the Hindu goddess. I spent a considerable amount of time and effort carefully adding information to the page, particularly a list of the goddess's various names and their corresponding meanings. I made sure to properly cite my sources and provide accurate information for each name. I was inspired to do this because I had noticed similar lists of names on other Wikipedia pages dedicated to deities, and those lists seemed to be accepted and helpful to readers. However, my additions to the Vaishno Devi page have been repeatedly removed by a single user. This user's stated reason for removing the information is that, in their opinion, "The infobox is meant to provide a brief overview. A separate section dedicated solely to listing names is also unnecessary unless there is significant scholarly analysis discussing those names. Wikipedia follows summary style, and articles on deities should focus on mythology, iconography, worship, etc—not exhaustive name lists." While I understand the point about keeping the infobox concise, I believe the list of names, with their meanings, adds valuable context and depth to the article. It provides readers with a more comprehensive understanding of the goddess and her diverse manifestations. My confusion stems from the fact that I've observed similar lists existing on other deity pages without being removed. It feels unfair that my contributions, which took a significant amount of time and research to compile, are being consistently deleted by one user, while similar content remains on other seemingly comparable pages. I'm trying to understand why my additions are being treated differently and how I can contribute to the page in a way that aligns with Wikipedia's guidelines and policies, while still providing valuab --Junereads (talk) 15:17, 16 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Junereads Hi, I don't mean to disregard your efforts, but from a quick glance, have you both considered discussing this out on the talk page? I think you'll find that you will be able to go much further when you discuss it out. :) --SHB2000 (talk) 23:09, 16 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I've come across quite a few articles now flagged for being too subjective and issues like that (this sounds like a CV etc). I've been struggling to work out what specifically that means and what I should do about it. Any clarifying tips you have on this would be much appreciated. Thanks! --User707070707 (talk) 19:47, 1 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @User707070707, from what I can infer, this most likely has to do with WP:NPOV, a universal guideline across enwiki. Any article marred by subjectivity doesn't truly reflect a neutral point of view in many cases, hence why you might be seeing so many of those tags. --SHB2000 (talk) 21:17, 1 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Technical news

  • Starting on November 4, the IP addresses of logged-out editors are no longer being publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account associated with their edits.
  • Administrators will now find that Special:MergeHistory is now significantly more flexible about what it can merge. It can now merge sections taken from the middle of the history of the source (rather than only the start) and insert revisions anywhere in the history of the destination page (rather than only the start).
