Transcluded section

[edit]

I noticed today that the first part of the "Misuse of administrative tools" section (WP:TOOLMISUSE) is actually being transcluded from Wikipedia:Administrators/Misuse of tools section. Apparently this was so it could also be used at Wikipedia:Administrators/Tools, but there are better ways of transcluding a section, and at any rate that page was blanked-and-redirected back in 2018. Would anyone complain if I moved everything back into WP:ADMIN? If someone makes a change to the policy, it should be visible to the 1,924 people who watch this page, not just the 18 who watch the other one. Now done; let me know if you disagree. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 06:28, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Admins who have made < 100 edits in 2 years

[edit]

Does anyone know what the # of admins who have made less than 100 edits in 2 years is? (Bonus points if you can provide me a list of the admins!) I'm thinking of starting an RfC to reduce the 60-month period to 24-months instead (criteria #2 of WP:INACTIVITY) and would like to know how many admins the new criteria (if passed) would affect. Thanks in advance! Some1 (talk) 00:13, 4 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

What would be the benefit to this reduction? You may want to review discussions such as Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)/Archive 216#Revise Wikipedia:INACTIVITY, Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Archive 203#Admin inactivity rules workshopping, Wikipedia:Village pump (idea lab)/Archive 69#Revisiting WP:INACTIVITY, and Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Archive 204#Fixing the admin inactivity requirements, where similar proposals did not reach consensus. Well, the data's at quarry:query/102711 - it includes about a fifth of the current admin-flagged accounts - but whatever you're trying to achieve, tweaking the numbers isn't going to help do it. See in particular my comment in Anomie's second link above. —Cryptic 02:24, 4 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
What's the # of admins who have made less than, let's say, 10 logged admin actions a year? Some1 (talk) 02:48, 4 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
There is no clear technical definition of what is and isn't a logged admin action. There are a total of 170 admins who have made fewer than 10 deletes, protects, or blocks in the last year. But this doesn't count edits to protected pages, and counts deletes to make way for a move which an ordinary editor or page mover could do. * Pppery * it has begun... 04:04, 4 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Wikimedians,

My name is Ssemanda Willy (User: Ssemmanda will). I am the former Project Lead of Luganda Wikipedia (2022–2025) and currently serve as Community Manager of the Wikimedia Community User Group Uganda. I respectfully submit my request for Adminship on our Luganda Wikipedia.

My motivation for seeking adminship is to: Maintain and improve the quality of Luganda Wikipedia articles, support the community by handling administrative tasks such as page protection, deletion, and combating vandalism, encourage new contributors by providing guidance and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment and strengthen Luganda Wikipedia as part of our broader mission to preserve and promote Ugandan languages online.

I believe my experience in leadership, advocacy, editing, and training equips me to serve effectively as an administrator. I am committed to transparency, collaboration, and supporting the growth of Luganda Wikipedia.

Thank you for considering my request. I welcome your feedback and look forward to continuing to work together to build a strong Luganda Wikipedia.

Sincerely,

User:@Ssemmanda will - 1,130 Global edit count.

Hi @Ssemmanda will: this is the English-language Wikipedia. I don't know what is the mechanism for becoming an admin on the Luganda one, but I'm pretty sure it happens there, and not here. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:56, 18 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @DoubleGrazing, In the one of Luganda, I found out that someone else asked but he received no comment, no response whatsover and lg wiki has remained with no language speaker Admin forever. I thought I can get help here. But I will be glad for any guidance. Ssemmanda will (talk) 12:01, 18 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
There needs to be a local discussion for a week or however long local policy dictates and then you can request a steward to assign the administrator right at m:SRP. Tenshi! (Talk page) 12:06, 18 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I support Will's request for admin rights. He is trusted contributor and mentor to all of us that contribute to Luganda wikipedia Geossegawa (talk) 16:48, 2 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

A question for the administors

[edit]

Can I be an administrator I always wanted to be part of Wikipedia AdrianToonsAnimations (talk) 01:25, 5 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Adminstrators#Becoming an administrator for information on how to become an administrator. However, you will require significantly more experience than just 5 edits in 3 days before you are ready for adminship. Don't despair though, you don't need to be an administrator to be part of Wikipedia, you just need to edit. Help:Getting started is a good place to start getting to know the place, and I'll also leaveSchwede66 has left a welcome message on your talk page with more useful links. Thryduulf (talk) 02:22, 5 April 2026 (UTC) I was beaten to it. Thryduulf (talk) 02:33, 5 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you AdrianToonsAnimations (talk) 02:57, 5 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I read the whole thing now when do I start being administrator? AdrianToonsAnimations (talk) 14:11, 5 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if you're serious or just kidding, but I'll assume the former. Your account needs to be 30+ days old with 500+ edits before you're even technically qualified to request adminship. In reality, you need much more experience than that - I'd say a couple of years and a few thousand edits, and that's if you're a quick learner and happy to get involved in a range of areas, and can work well with others without getting into too much trouble.
For now, I'd say forget about adminship, get on with contributing to the encyclopaedia, and one day someone may suggest to you that it could be time for you to starting thinking of picking up the proverbial 'mop'. Happy editing! -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 14:42, 5 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
