Το Live Aid είναι μια διπλή ιστορική συναυλία, με ανθρωπιστικό χαρακτήρα, που πραγματοποιήθηκε την ίδια στιγμή από κοινού στο Λονδίνο και τη Φιλαδέλφεια στις 13 Ιουλίου 1985 και οργανώθηκε από τον Μπομπ Γκέλντοφ και τον Midge Ure με σκοπό τη συγκέντρωση χρημάτων για την ανακούφιση του συνεχιζόμενου λιμού στην Αιθιοπία. Μεταδόθηκε από πολλές τηλεοράσεις, ζωντανά, σε όλο τον κόσμο. Επιλέχθηκαν οι κορυφαίοι καλλιτέχνες όπως Ντέιβιντ Μπόουι, Πωλ ΜακΚάρτνεϋ, Queen, U2, Dire Straits, Duran Duran, Φιλ Κόλινς (οι οποίοι από το Λονδίνο πήραν το Κονκόρντ για να παίξουν και στη Φιλαδέλφεια ), Μικ Τζάγκερ, The Who, Έλτον Τζον, Στινγκ, Μαντόνα, ο Μπομπ Ντίλαν, ο Ρόμπερτ Πλαντ, ο Τζίμι Πέιτζ, ο Τζον Πωλ Τζόουνς (μουσικός), το Status Quo, ο Cat Stevens . Αυτή η εκδήλωση διεξήχθη κυρίως στο στάδιο Wembley του Λονδίνου και στο στάδιο John F. Kennedy στη Φιλαδέλφεια . Υπολογίζεται ότι 2 δισεκατομμύρια άνθρωποι παρακολούθησαν την συναυλία, σε περισσότερες από 100 διαφορετικές χώρες, και 90.000 άτομα παρευρέθηκαν. Υπήρξαν κι άλλες συναυλίες που οργανώθηκαν επίσης με την ίδια φιλοσοφία, όπως στην Αυστραλία (Oz για την Αφρική) με τη συμμετοχή του INXS, ή ακόμα και στη Γερμανία.

Η επιτυχία της συναυλίας αυτής ενέπνευσε το τραγούδι The Tide Turning του Ρότζερ Γουώτερς (Pink Floyd). Το 2005, με την ευκαιρία της εικοστής επετείου της συναυλίας Live Aid, ένα μέρος της, κυκλοφόρησε στο εμπόριο (για φιλανθρωπικούς πάντα σκοπούς) με τη μορφή τετραπλού DVD.

Για την ίδια περίσταση, η εμπειρία ανανεώνεται: Το Live 8, πραγματοποιήθηκε στις 2 Ιουλίου του 2005, όμως αυτή τη φορά σε μια πιο διεθνή διάσταση. Στην πραγματικότητα, υπήρξαν συναυλίες που πραγματοποιήθηκαν στις πόλεις της Φιλαδέλφειας, του Λονδίνου, του Παρισιού, του Βερολίνου, της Ρώμης, του Τορόντο, του Τόκιο, του Γιοχάνεσμπουργκ όπως και της Μόσχας . Όπως το Live Aid, έτσι και το Live 8 κυκλοφορεί σε DVD για να υποστηρίξει την θέση του.

Στην συναυλία του 1985, μερικά γνωστά συγκροτήματα, όπως οι Eurythmics ή οι Tears for Fears, που κανονικά θα είχαν συμμετάσχει σε αυτήν, δεν μπόρεσαν τελικά να δώσουν το παρόν για διάφορους λόγους.
