Makasudin ginin ɗakin karatu ya samo asali ne daga na cibiyar iyaye, Jami'ar Fatakwal. Ya wanzu don samar da littattafai, abubuwan da ba na littattafai ba/na'urorin lantarki da ayyuka na tallafi waɗanda ke da kima wajen faɗaɗawa da tallafawa shirye-shiryen koyarwa, koyo da bincike na jami'a. ^[26]

Cibiyoyin haɗin gwiwa

A cikin 1981, an amince da yarjejeniyar haɗin kai tsakanin Jami'ar Port Harcourt da Kwalejin Ilimi ta wancan lokacin, Uyo a tsohuwar Jihar Cross River. Wannan yarjejeniyar ta samar da masu digiri a Ilimi a cikin 1985 (duba littafin 6th Convocation) da 1986. An dakatar da haɗin gwiwa ta hanyar haɓaka Kwalejin Ilimi, Uyo zuwa Jami'ar Jiha a 1983 ta Gwamnatin Dokta Clement Isong. An kira wannan Jami'ar Jami'ar Jihar Cross River (UNICROSS), Uyo. Lokacin da Gwamnatin Tarayya ta karbe shi a shekarar 1991, ya zama abin da a yau ake kira Jami'ar Uyo (UNIUYO). Tun daga wannan lokacin, Uniport ta haɓaka shirye-shirye a wasu cibiyoyin haɗin gwiwa.
