4X (סוגת משחקי וידאו)
4X (קיצור של Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate) הוא תת-ז'אנר של משחקי אסטרטגיה ממוחשבים בהם השחקן שולט באימפריה[1] וצריך לחקור טריטוריות חדשות, להרחיב את האימפריות שנמצאת תחת שליטתו, לנצל את המשאבים שעומדים לרשותו, ולהביס את המעצמות היריבות באמצעים צבאיים, דיפלומטיים או כלכליים.
היסטוריה
[עריכת קוד מקור | עריכה]הז'אנר התפתח במקור בהשראת משחקי הלוח הקלאסיים ומשחקי מחשב מוקדמים מבוססי טקסט. עם זאת המונח "4X" נטבע לראשונה רק בשנות ה-90 בעיקר בהשפעת משחקי וידאו מכוננים בז'אנר כמו המשחק "Civilization" של סיד מאייר שיצא ב-1991, והמשחק "Master of Orion" שיצא ב-1993.
לאורך שנות ה-90 ותחילת שנות ה-2000 הז'אנר המשיך להתפתח. משחקים כמו "Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri" שיצא ב-1999, והמשחק "Galactic Civilizations" שיצא ב-2003, ו"Europa Universalis" שיצא ב-2000, הכילו פיצ'רים חדשים וסיפקו לשחקנים את ההזדמנות לחקור גם תקופות היסטוריות אחרות, וכמו גם יקומים בדיוניים ומציאות חלופית.
משחקיות
[עריכת קוד מקור | עריכה]המשחק בדרך כלל מחולק לארבעה שלבים עיקריים:
- חקר טריטוריות חדשות - בתחילת המשחק השחקן צריך לשלוח משלחות מחקר על מנת שיחקרו טריטוריות לא מוכרות במטרה שיגלו אזורים חדשים שניתן להתיישב בהם, משאבי טבע נוספים, ואיומים פוטנציאליים.
- התרחבות - השלב בו השחקן צריך להרחיב את הטריטוריה החדשה ואת וההשפעה שלה, וכמו גם לנהל ערים או מושבות ולהבטיח את הצמיחה והשגשוג שלהם. תהליך ההתרחבות כולל גם הקמת תשתיות, ניהול של האוכלוסייה, ניצול משאבי טבע, וכמו גם להתכונן לקרבות צבאיים פוטנציאלים.
- ניצול משאבים - בשלב זה השחקן צריך לנצל את המשאבים אליהם יש להם גישה על מנת לוודא שהאימפריה תמשיך לצמוח ולשגשג.
- השמדה - השחקן חייבים לבנות ולתחזק כוחות צבאיים במטרה להגן על האימפריה שנמצאת תחת שליטתו, ובסופו של דבר לכבוש את האימפריה היריבה. לעיתים רבות ההתמקדות בדיפלומטיה במשחקים הללו עשויה למלא תפקיד מכריע בקביעת התוצאה הסופית של הסכסוכים עם האימפריות היריבות במשחק.
