Edward Janiak (14 August 1952 – 23 September 2021)[1] was a Polish bishop of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as the Bishop of Kalisz from 2012 to 2020.
Janiak was born in Malczyce, Poland. He was ordained a priest on 19 May 1979 by Wincenty Urban.[1][2]
Janiak served in various roles in the Church. He became an auxiliary bishop of Wrocław in 1996. In 2012, he was appointed as the Bishop of Kalisz.[1][2]
In 2020, Janiak was accused of covering up cases of sexual abuse by priests in his diocese. He resigned as Bishop of Kalisz in October 2020. A Vatican investigation into his actions was underway at the time of his death.[2][3]
Edward Janiak died on 23 September 2021 in Warsaw, Poland.[2][3]
