John Yu

John Samuel Yu AC (born 12 December 1934) is an Australian former paediatrician and hospital administrator. He was Head of Medicine and later the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children. He was one of the main people behind the hospital changing locations from Camperdown to Westmead in 1995. He also served as the chancellor of the University of New South Wales from 2000 to 2005. He was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1989, and later a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2001. He was named Australian of the Year in 1996.[1]

Personal life

Yu was born in Nanking (now Nanjing, Jiangsu), China. He moved to Australia as a young child before the city fell to Japanese forces. He grew up in Sydney.[2] He studied at the University of Sydney.[1]
