Patrick James Morrisey (born December 21, 1967) is an American lawyer and politician who is the Governor-elect of West Virginia. He has been the Attorney General of West Virginia since 2013. He is a member of the Republican Party.
He was born in New York City. Morrisey studied at Rutgers University. He defeated five-term Democratic incumbent Darrell McGraw in the 2012 election.
In July 2017, Morrisey announced his candidacy for U.S. Senate.[1] He lost the general election in November 2018 to incumbent Joe Manchin.
On April 4, 2023, Morrisey announced his candidacy for governor of West Virginia in the 2024 election.[2] He narrowly defeated State Delegate Moore Capito in the primary election in May 2024. He won the election in November 2024.
