The result of the move request was: moved. I'm closing the move request early. There is support for the request, and I'm about to post this to the main page. I want to avoid that this article gets moved whilst it's on the main page as per WP:MPNOREDIRECT. This is before the usual 7 days of discussion is up. If editors don't thing this isn't settled yet, please do open another RM. Schwede66 07:42, 24 January 2026 (UTC)
2026 Biobío wildfires → 2026 Chilean wildfires – The wildfires did not take place exclusively in Biobío. Chorchapu (talk | edits) 18:31, 18 January 2026 (UTC)
- Support. I think it should be changed to 2026 Chile wildfires as it happened in two regions, not just Biobío. Bloxzge 025 (talk) 20:04, 18 January 2026 (UTC)
- I was looking at “Chilean wildfires” per the precedent of 2014 Chilean wildfires. Chorchapu (talk | edits) 21:00, 18 January 2026 (UTC)
- That redirects you to Great Fire of Valparaíso. 2017, 2023 and 2024 all say Chile, not Chilean. Bloxzge 025 (talk) 21:10, 18 January 2026 (UTC)
- Alright then, Chile would then work. Chorchapu (talk | edits) 21:11, 18 January 2026 (UTC)

- Support per WP:COMMONNAME. Most news sources are referring to these fires as "Chile wildfires" not "Biobío wildfires". GWA88 (talk) 12:48, 19 January 2026 (UTC)
- Support per nom, either 2026 Chilean wildfires or 2026 Chile wildfires. 🌀Hurricane Wind and Fire (talk) (contribs)🔥 15:07, 19 January 2026 (UTC)
- Support, did not take place only in Biobio and most reports use "Chile" or "Chilean". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Speedrunz (talk • contribs) 18:00, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
- Support. As a Chilean, the wildfires aren't referred to just being in the Bío Bío region, as there also several other fires in the Ñuble and Araucanía regions, and at least three people have been detained on suspicion of intentionally igniting several fires. GabMen20 (talk) 19:41, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
- Support. The fires weren't exclusively in Biobío. Fires are occurring in other parts of Chile. CostalCal (talk) 06:32, 23 January 2026 (UTC)

2026 Chilean wildfires → 2026 Chile wildfires – Make consistent with 2024 Chile wildfires and 2023 Chile wildfires. Speedrunz (talk) 15:47, 26 January 2026 (UTC) — Relisting. TarnishedPathtalk 02:55, 4 February 2026 (UTC)

- Oppose, and rename the other two to 'Chilean' – Nouns cannot modify nouns; an adjective is required. Yours, &c. RGloucester — ☎ 21:48, 26 January 2026 (UTC)

- Comment If the other two are moved instead, should 2024 Greek wildfires, 2025 South Korea wildfires, etc also be moved? Chorchapu (talk | edits) 15:43, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
- Comment The wildfires in Canada over the past 3 years all used the adjective Canadian. See 2023 Canadian wildfires, 2024 Canadian wildfires, and 2025 Canadian wildfires. If consistency is key, I wanted to point these articles out as well. ~2026-60064-7 (talk) 07:02, 28 January 2026 (UTC)

- Support The vast majority of natural disaster articles (see List of heat waves, List of droughts, List of wildfires, List of floods) seem use the name of the location and not its demonym, for example 2023_Turkey–Syria_earthquakes, 2017 Pakistan heat wave, 2022–2023 Uruguay drought, etc. However, there are definitely some that use a demonym. I'd advocate for moving this one for greater consistency as the difference is somewhat trivial. Pluma (talk) 23:32, 29 January 2026 (UTC)

- Comment It seems like this is going the the direction of moving all other similar articles to the demonym name. I will start a mass-nomination as soon as this RM is wrapped up, if that is the correct path forward. Please let me know if that's incorrect. Chorchapu (talk | edits) 00:04, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
- Support per nom and Pluma, this article is currently a bit outlier and normal usage across the project (per the WP:NCWWW guideline, which encourages us to use a location indicator rather than a demonym). Calling it Chilean implies the wildfires somehow have a nationality, while the more normal adjective for this sort of thing, Chile, tells us simply that the fires are located in that place. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 12:13, 3 February 2026 (UTC)
- 'Chilean' is not a demonym in this title, but an adjective referring to things related to Chile. 'Chile' is not an adjective, but a noun. Why are we questioning basic concepts of English grammar? Yours, &c. RGloucester — ☎ 10:23, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
- Nouns can be used as attributives, it's just that Chilean makes more sense because there is the option and adjectives work better in place of nouns when used that way. Mesocyclonic93(t)(c) 00:04, 8 February 2026 (UTC)

- Oppose, due to adjectives, although I will say that nouns as attributives aren't necessarily incorrect, though "Chilean" exists, and therefore should be used instead of a noun. Also think that we should change the other two articles. Mesocyclonic93(t)(c) 00:00, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
