Wording suggestion

[edit]

Here's the current text: "This article has been viewed enough times in a single week to make it into the 25 Most Popular Wikipedia Articles of the Week"

Since readers are directed to Wikipedia:Top 25 Report, I propose changing the wording to:

  • "This article has been viewed enough times in a single week to appear in the Top 25 Report."

Or, is there a reason for the current wording? ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:35, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Format request

[edit]

I have another request. I'm looking at Talk:Christmas. Can we change the format from:

This article has been viewed enough times in a single week to appear in the Top 25 Report 4 times. The weeks in which this happened:

  • December 1 to 7, 2013
  • December 8 to 14, 2013
  • December 15 to 21, 2013
  • December 22 to 28, 2013

To this:

This article has been viewed enough times in a single week to appear in the Top 25 Report 4 times. The weeks in which this happened: December 1 to 7, 2013; December 8 to 14, 2013; December 15 to 21, 2013; December 22 to 28, 2013.

(Or similar.) I'm trying to make the template smaller on talk pages. I appreciate the info but we can communicate this information in fewer lines. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:32, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Pppery, Thanks! Are you open to remove the line break between "The weeks in which this happened:" and "December 1 to 7, 2013December 8 to 14, 2013December 15 to 21, 2013December 22 to 28, 2013" (using Talk:Christmas as an example)? ---Another Believer (Talk) 04:21, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't do that originally because that line break wasn't deliberately added by the module but instead was an artifact of the way I implemented the horizontal format, but I've now figured out a nice way to remove it, so  Done * Pppery * it has begun... 04:26, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Pppery, Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 04:32, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Pppery: Talk:American Horror Story: Hotel shows a link break after "happened:" -- can this be removed in the template? ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:10, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not easily, because that newline isn't deliberately added to the wikitext, but instead an artifact of the way the horizontal list of items is rendered on the page. * Pppery * it has begun... 15:16, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Collapse option?

[edit]

Would there be a way for articles that have long talk pages (and have multiple top 25s) to have a 1 line "This article has been in the Top 25 x times" and a show box which would show the dates? This is beyond my skill as a template editor but if such a feature existed I would use it at Talk:YouTube. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 16:54, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Barkeep49 Definitely doable. Perhaps something like in the testcases? It automatically collapses if it has over a certain number of appearences (currently 5) except if |collapse=no is given. It can also be forced to collapse using |collapse=yes. --Trialpears (talk) 23:27, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes something like that would be great Trialpears. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 00:01, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Note that this feature used to exist back when each week was on a different line, and I removed it as part of my rewrite to put everything on the same line on the grounds that it wasn't necessary given how much less space the template used. I'm fine with it being re-added, though. * Pppery * it has begun... 00:41, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah it might only most useful at perennially high traffic articles like YouTube. Thanks agin Trialpears for your work on this. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 17:33, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, the sandbox version with this should now be ready for deployment. I will give it a week in case anyone objects and then implement it. Worth noting that it now collapses if there are over 10 appearances instead of the previous 5. There are also some other improvements since my previous post. --Trialpears (talk) 00:57, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Collapse doesn't work. Its use, as at the testcase page, says "The following dates couldn't be parsed: 1: yes", at least on a mobile device. Wyliepedia @ 00:23, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
CAWylie, The testcases shows the current version and the sandbox version side by side. Since I forgot to implement the feature in the main template it still doesn't support it and throws an error when I attempt to give it a parameter it doesn't yet understand. I've just taken the collapse options live and it looks good to me, both in the testcases and on all real talk pages I checked. If you see any issue, please tell me and I'll make sure to fix it swiftly. --Trialpears (talk) 10:20, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Trialpears: Seems good now. Thank you! Wyliepedia @ 10:52, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Twice

[edit]

As the documentation shows, using this template with two dates as, say, {{Top 25 report|Jun 8 2025|Jun 15 2025}} results in wording including "in the Top 25 Report 2 times."

The correct grammar would be "in the Top 25 Report twice". Can this be applied? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 16:38, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
