Ways to improve List of awards and nominations received by Andrew Scott

[edit]

Hello, The One I Left,

Thank you for creating List of awards and nominations received by Andrew Scott.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Hello! This page is well-formatted and organized. Please add sources for many of the awards won or nominated for that have no reference. A majority of the most internationally-notable awards already have proper citations, which is why I am marking this as reviewed. Keep up the great work.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Trainsskyscrapers}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Information icon Please do not add commentary, your own point of view, or your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles, as you did to Matt Walsh (political commentator). Doing so violates Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy and breaches the formal tone expected in an encyclopedia. Thank you. DanielRigal (talk) 00:22, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've looked into some of your other edits and I now think that what you did in that edit was probably inadvertent. Sorry for the warning template but please understand that we can't have a heading "Campaigns against underage transgender surgery" when there is no "underage transgender surgery". We can't let the heading imply otherwise. To do so would be to take the false claims of conspiracy theorists at face value and legitimise them by repeating them in wikivoice. Also, Walsh's harassment campaign was specifically directed at hospitals so that needs to be included in the heading. DanielRigal (talk) 00:30, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request for help on page you've edited in the past

You made some good edits to the Kjersti Flaa page over the last few months. Over the last few hours, Flaa has sent her fans to her page to try to make it more positive. It has become largely incoherent and is being swarmed by new users and unregistered users. I would try to jump in there myself, but Flaa has made a YouTube video targeting me. This will probably need to be escalated to an admin level, but in the meantime I just wanted to make an appeal to a fellow editor who I know does good work and has tried to get that page cleaner and more balanced. Thanks! (and I hope you don't mind me coming to your talk page like this.) Dflovett (talk) 03:36, 3 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that alternate titles for episodes are acceptable to be included, even though they were changed to new titles. A tag has been placed on The New York Times' 100 Best Books of the 21st Century requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/books/best-books-21st-century.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. @Therapyisgood, StarryGrandma, The One I Left, User4, Bookleo, and Jaguarnik: I've looked at history of this article to see if there was a "last good version" to WP:ROLLBACK to. Unfortunately, its original creation on 14 July 2024 is pretty much so identical to the 2024 piece in The New York Times as to indistinguishable from a copyright violation. Please let me know if you I can be of assistance with this. Shirt58 (talk) 🦘 10:12, 25 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Shirt58: Hi. I found this message after looking to see if there was any discussion about this. Certainly the list is notable enough for a non-copyvio article à la Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. When you say "so identical", you are referring to the list part, correct? Or were there other copyright concerns? Οἶδα (talk) 22:02, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Οἶδα, and other people looking at this.
I guess I used "unfortunately" in a perfunctory way there, suitable for the style of speedy deletion decisions by admins.
Admin hat off, I would have written "unfortunately - and this is from someone who loves books, and has created any number of articles about books, and really wants to keep this article -..."
Admin hat back on - a snippet here:
I initially thought that this was something like that an obvious copyvio? Or does it adequately paraphrase the source text enough to avoid copyvio concerns?
I would appreciate your opinion about this.
Shirt58 (talk) 🦘 10:39, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. I am unsure if that constitutes a copyvio, but it is certainly very close in structure and phrasing. I cannot view the page's last revision, but the last archived copy from 15 June[1] appeared to correct this:

Elena Ferrante's My Brilliant Friend secured the top position, followed by Isabel Wilkerson's The Warmth of Other Suns and Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall. Edward P. Jones' The Known World and Jonathan Franzen's The Corrections rounded out the top five. Several authors had multiple books represented, including Ferrante, Jesmyn Ward, and George Saunders.

Though the section appears to have had some sourcing issues, and what I can immediately discern to be AI-generated text. The duplicated "critical reception" section appears entirely AI-generated. Οἶδα (talk) 14:47, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Separating awards articles by critics vs. other shizzle

[edit]

I noticed all that work you did for Blanchett got reverted. Then today, I was also perusing Ruffalo's page, and noticed a simple solution that might suffice if implemented on hers?: Just separate the critics' associations from the other non-major organization/industry awards. They'll have two separate tables, and might result in far less conflict that way. What do you think? It might be a good practice to implement across the board. --Cinemaniac86TalkStalk 10:52, 29 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I just looked and saw the user just started deleting sourced accolades they deemed Non-notable. I will agree that there does seem to be puffery among articles accolades pages. Re: Ruffalo: Totally agree, for the most part I have been separating critics from miscellaneous associations for unwieldy and lengthy tables. Will do for Blanchett. Thanks! The One I Left (talk) 16:04, 29 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Unacceptable Bias in Article Language

[edit]

Your edit to the Chris Brown page, specifically the phrasing "severely beat," is a blatant violation of Wikipedia’s Neutral Point of View (NPOV) policy. This language is biased and emotional, directly violating the core editorial standards of Wikipedia.

You are expected to revise this immediately to reflect a neutral tone. If this issue is not addressed promptly, I give you my personal word; I will take all necessary actions to escalate the matter, including reporting your account for repeated violations. Failure to comply will not be tolerated, and I will ensure this results in further consequences. Don’t assume that, as a new user, I don’t understand how to navigate this platform—because I can assure you that I do.

I expect immediate correction. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.213.36.99 (talk) 13:16, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Don't understand the threatening tone. I definitely disagree with the claim that "severely beat" is in violation of NPOV, mainly since it's a description of what happened, per the extensive sources. If you have an issue with it gain a consensus on the Chris Brown talk page. The One I Left (talk) 13:39, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I looked over the edit and changed "severely" to "violently" since that phrased is used multiple times in the sourcing (The Los Angeles Times, NPR, CNN, NBC etc.) Hopefully that compromise will suffice, but if you have issues please bring them to the Chris Brown talk page. The One I Left (talk) 13:45, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I already left a message on the talk page and tagged you, so I'm not sure why you're acting as though I didn’t or avoiding discussing it there. But, getting down to the facts: While I understand that the term "violently" is used in several reliable sources, the phrasing "violently beat" in your edit isn't entirely neutral. When describing sensitive or controversial events, it's important to maintain a balanced tone. Words like "violently" or "beat" carry strong emotional connotations, potentially implying aggression or intent, which could influence readers' perceptions of the situation. Such language can be seen as judgmental and may inadvertently introduce bias, framing the event in a way that skews how it's understood.
To preserve the neutrality of the article, it’s better to avoid emotionally charged terms and focus on the facts instead. Rephrasing it in a way that simply describes the legal proceedings—such as "charged with felony assault"—allows readers to form their own conclusions based on the facts, rather than being influenced by loaded language. Neutral wording also ensures the article remains impartial and credible, which is essential for maintaining the encyclopedia's standard of neutrality.
Copy re: tagged. For some reason it didn't pop up for me. Re: wording, I have to respectfully disagree, since I think you are adding your personal opinions subconsciously or not into the matter. We should go by what the majority of reliable sources say and they describe the assault as "violent". Let's see what the talk page says though. The One I Left (talk) 13:59, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there! Not sure to what you are referring to? Are you citing my listing the full names in the Death and tributes section of Diane Keaton? Yes I was clearing up something that is confusing. For example you listed just the last names of people and that works fine for DiCaprio but "Moore, Martin, Coppola". Who are you referring to? You need to be specific as to not confuse the reader. The One I Left (talk) 02:51, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Per MOS:SURNAME, it states: After the initial mention, a person should generally be referred to by surname only – without an honorific prefix such as "Mr.", "Mrs.", or "Ms.", and without academic or professional prefixes like "Dr.", "Prof.", "Rev.", etc. – or may be referred to by a personal pronoun. All of those surnames were previously mentioned within the article, and per the Manual of Style (which is to be followed), only their surnames are to be mentioned in subsequent mention. Not only that, but you violated MOS:OVERLINK (as well as SURNAME) by linking to Woody Allen, who was previously linked earlier in the article's body prose, as well. livelikemusic (TALK!) 03:06, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Let's bring this to the talk page since other users have the same issue re: confusion. "Moore, Martin, Coppola" who are they! Is it Julianne Moore? Mandy Moore? Coppola? Sofia? Francis? There needs to be context. The One I Left (talk) 14:00, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
