Die Verleihung der Emmy Awards 2005 fand am 18. September 2005 im Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles statt. Dies war die 57. Verleihung des Preises, in der Sparte Primetime.
Die Verleihung, die drei Wochen nach Hurrikan Katrinas Verwüstung stattfand, begann mit dem Lied September von der Band Earth Wind & Fire, in einer lustigen Version in Zusammenarbeit mit den Black Eyed Peas. Dabei erinnerte man an die Spendenaufrufe für die Opfer des Hurricanes. Der Fernsehsender CBS übertrug die Veranstaltung, die von Ellen DeGeneres moderiert wurde. Der Sender mit den meisten Nominierungen (36) war HBO und erhielt dabei sieben Auszeichnungen. Die erfolgreichste Serien waren Alle lieben Raymond (10 Nominierungen), Will & Grace (10) und Desperate Housewives (8). Mit nur drei Auszeichnungen, bei lediglich vier Nominierungen, ist der Sender Comedy Central der „Treffsicherste“ gewesen.
