D’après Longrich et al., les Arenysaurini sont caractérisés par une combinaison unique de caractères primitifs et dérivés. Les caractères primitifs comprennent un processus dorsal du maxillaire élargi comme chez Aralosaurus et la présence d’un diastème mandibulaire court. La batterie dentaire ne se projette pas caudalement par rapport au processus coronoïde dans la plupart des taxons, à l’exception d’Adynomosaurus. Les dents du dentaire présentent une carène médiane décalée postérieurement, un caractère primitif perdu chez les hadrosauridés mais réacquis chez les Arenysaurini. Cependant, les denticules de ces dents sont fortement réduits, un caractère dérivé présents notamment chez Hypacrosaurus et Edmontosaurus. Enfin, un dentaire avec une extrémité antérieure triangulaire et fortement effilée en vue latérale constitue une autapomorphie du groupe[1].
