Ovaj gen kodira protein sa sekvencom sličnosti sa retinoblastom -vezujućim proteinom-1. Kodirani protein je podjedinica histon-deacetilaza -ovisnog SIN3A transkripcijskog korepresorskog kompleksa, koji funkcioniše u različitim ćelijskim procesima, uključujući proliferaciju ćelija , diferencijaciju , apoptozu , onkogenezu i određivanje ćelijske sudbine Genski proizvod prepoznaje antitijelo IgG izolirano od raka dojke pacijenta i čini se da je molekulski marker povezan sa širokim spektrom ljudskih maligniteta. Karakterizirane su alternativne transkripcijske prerađene varijante koje kodiraju različite izoforme .[ 6]
