Sources
[edit]Thanks for your work on updating population figures. Please make sure that you add a source for every change you make to the information in an article. I've found and added a ref for the 2021 pop of Chillerton and Gatcombe. Thanks. PamD 10:54, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
- And please make sure that the article is consistent: as you've left Whippingham there's an unsourced 2021 census figure in the infobox and a dead link for the 2011 figure in the text. PamD 10:56, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
Please don't add places without any evidence for their existence: a blue link to the article, or the existence of an entry in the list at List of United Kingdom locations which is sourced from OS data.
If you need to add a red link, please don't invent placeholders like "Page not created". If you find that the placename already has an article for a different place of the same name, or a different meaning of the word, then please decide what disambiguator would be used for the article ("Placename, Isle of Wight" in these cases) and create the red link accordingly. But these places should not be added to this page unless their existence is verified elsewhere. Thanks. PamD 11:16, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
- I've reverted your edits, as they were not improving the list. PamD 11:19, 26 October 2025 (UTC)

Hello, I'm PamD. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, List of places on the Isle of Wight, but you didn't provide a reliable source. On Wikipedia, it's important that article content be verifiable. If you'd like to resubmit your change with a citation, your edit is archived in the page history. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. PamD 13:12, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
- thank you Shlumble (talk) 18:56, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
The above is a standard templated message. Please now stop adding unsourced places to the list, and stop using your "page not created" links. That is not how red links in Wikipedia are made: if there was a reason to add Ashengrove or Bagwich to the list then a straightforward link [[Ashengrove]] is all you need. But neither of those places appears in the OS-derived list of UK locations so we do not need them in this list. Continuing with these additions now that you have been asked, twice, to stop doing so would be disruptive editing and will be treated accordingly. Thanks. PamD 13:20, 26 October 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Shlumble. Thank you for your work on Brambles Chine. Another editor, Northernhenge, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:
Thanks for creating this article. It seems borderline concerning notability. I think its best chance is the local geology, so more reliable sources about the geology, or some other point of notability, would be useful.
To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Northernhenge}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

Disambiguation link notification for November 5
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Foreland, Isle of Wight, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Foreland. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Please do not add or change content, as you did at Hill Mari language, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources to see how to add references to an article. Russian Wikipedia is not a reliable source itself; if you'd like to add information from another Wikipedia, please cite the external sources used there. ... sawyer * any/all * talk 19:31, 14 November 2025 (UTC)
Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Brambles Chine, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Clyde H. Mapping (talk) 16:34, 19 November 2025 (UTC)

Earth605talk 06:21, 14 December 2025 (UTC)Thank you for creating this article. There were a few problems which the AfC reviewer didn't mention, but which you should know about for future editing.
- You don't need to include the time of creation of your sources, only the date. This was creating red error messages in my view of the article. I've fixed them
- We don't use ordinals like "8th" in dates. And as this is an article on a UK topic it should format dates as "8 November 1880", rather than the American "November 8, 1880".
- No apostrophe in 1880s etc.
- Everything needs a reference: you have several unreferenced paragraphs. If you are using one source for multiple paragraphs, cite it each time using a reference name.
- The template {{convert}} and its compact version {{cvt}} are useful for feet and metres. Use the figure from your source and let the template do the sums; you can change the display order with the "flip" parameter.

Book refs
[edit]Hallo, Thanks for continuing to create well-sourced articles on IoW places.
Please remember that if you're citing a book, like Mills, you should include the ISBN. That then becomes a clickable link which enables the reader to find more information about the book. I added the isbn I found in an internet archive copy of the book, to your new Spring Vale, Isle of Wight, but please change this if it isn't the edition you are using, and include it when you cite the book in future. Thanks. PamD 11:48, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
Disambiguation links
[edit]Hallo, more on Spring Vale, Isle of Wight: You don't need to add the "distinguish" hatnote, because the title clarifies that it isn't in the West Midlands, and no-one looking for the West Midlands article will end up there.
But if a reader types Spring Vale, they need help in finding Spring Vale, Isle of Wight. If it was the only "Spring Vale", then a direct hatnote there would work, but because there are a lot of them there is a disambiguation page. It is shared with "Springvale", and is signposted from Spring Vale. But until a few minutes ago when I added it, that Springvale disambiguation page didn't include a link to the IoW page, so the reader wouldn't have been able to find it.
So: whenever you create a new page with a disambiguated title (either a "comma-separated" placename like this, or a bracketed title like "Bluff (novel)"), please remember to provide the reader with a way to find it from the basic title - either by adding a hatnote or by adding it to a disambiguation page. Thanks.
