Xylorycta est genus lepidopterorum superfamiliae Gelechioideorum. Species in Africa et Australia endemicae sunt, artissime cum proteaceis consociatae, in Hakea, Lambertia, Grevillea, Leptospermo, Macadamia, Oreocalle, Persoonia, et Telopea inventae. Larvae nonnullarum specierum caules ramosque, vel etiam florales Banksiae spicas terebrant, sed plurimae intra pinacothecam sericae inter folia textam habitant.[1]

Genus primum ab Eduardo Meyrick entomolgo idiota anno 1890 in Transactions of the Royal Society of South Australia divulgatum est. Hodie in familia Xyloryctidarum ponitur, sed classificationes veteriores id in subfamilia Xyloryctinarum familiae Oecophoridarum ponebant,[2] sed investigationes recentiores monstrant Xyloryctidas familiam separatam constituere, maiores quidem cum Oecophoridis communiter habentís, sed non ex eis orientís.
