Births and deaths sections of 20th and 21st century years

[edit]

Please note that I started a discussion at Wikipedia:Village_pump (proposals)/Archive 224#Removing the Births and deaths sections of 20th and 21st century years to propose removing the births and deaths of 20th and 21st century years. Anyone who is interested in commenting there is welcome. Interstellarity (talk) 22:19, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Unpopular opinion.

[edit]

The "Leaders section can be restored with this form. With "Hide/Show" Gallery.

For the Decades until the 1970s. History has not judged the most of 1990s leaders beacause is living.

Sorry for the bad morphing.

Example: Leaders of the 1960s. EditingIsMyHobby (talk) 15:56, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Removing births and deaths of the year articles - 1900-1979

[edit]

Continuing the discussion from my talk page, we seem to have a disagreement on whether the entries for the births and deaths should be removed for the years of the 20th century. I feel that to avoid BLP issues, it should extend all the way to 1900 and not at some point in the middle of the century.

For the record, I am opposed to this. The only reason we split Deaths for newer years is size reasons, because there's a lot of them. A category link isn't good enough IMO. QuicoleJR (talk) 00:31, 7 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@QuicoleJR How do you feel about splitting births? Do we split it for size reasons as well? I'm saying this because most of our people articles are from the 20th and 21st centuries. Yes, we do have size problems for the newer years, but we also have size problems with older years up to 1900 as well. Interstellarity (talk) 14:17, 8 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'd prefer to have "births in year" articles and more "deaths in year" articles going down the 20th century, instead of simply linking to categories. QuicoleJR (talk) 14:23, 8 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Contemporary decade articles

[edit]

I was thinking of improving the page 2010s, but the page is absurdly long. 2020s is even longer despite there still being 4 years to go, and both of them along with 2000s are in the top 500 longest pages. How should we go about shortening them? ChaoticVermillion (converse, contribs) 07:54, 5 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have a suggestion: get rid of the tables in 2010s and 2020s. If it isn't important enough to work into the prose that will follow, it shouldn't be on the page anyway. Those tables are absurdly long and absurdly numerous, and they need to go. Similarly, for 2000s, take those massive paragraph-long bullet points on those lists and turn them into (much shorter) prose, removing anything that doesn't fit or isn't needed. If there's still a size problem after this, we can make further cuts. QuicoleJR (talk) 14:35, 8 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion about WikiProject banner templates

[edit]

For WikiProjects that participate in rating articles, the banners for talk pages usually say something like:

There is a proposal to change the default wording on the banners to say "priority" instead of "importance". This could affect the template for your group. Please join the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Council#Proposal to update wording on WikiProject banners.
