1. Hershkovitz introduced the genus name Pseudoryzomys in a 1959 article, but failed to make the name available under the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, because he did not explicitly name the diagnostic characteristics of the genus. In his 1962 monograph on phyllotine rodents, Hershkovitz properly identified diagnostic characters, making the name formally available for the first time. Accordingly, the correct year of publication for Pseudoryzomys is 1962, not 1959.^[2]
