Austrodyptornithes este o cladă de păsări care include ordinele Sphenisciformes (pinguini) și Procellariiformes (albatroși și petreli).[3] O analiză din 2014 a genomurilor întregi a 48 de specii reprezentative de păsări a concluzionat că pinguinii sunt grupul soră al Procellariiformes,[4] de care s-a separat acum aproximativ 60 de milioane de ani.[5]
